Incident Details
Cause of Death:Officer Brian Elliott was shot and killed after responding to a domestic disturbance at the Beech Meadow apartment complex.
As he and another officer approached the apartment and hearing a woman screaming for help, Officer Elliott kicked in the door when both officers were shot by a 47-year-old man who was inside.
Both officers were transported to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis where Officer Elliott later died while the other officer, who was shot in the leg, survived.
The suspect fled the scene and was taken into custody by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department SWAT officers four-and-a-half hours later in a laundry room of another apartment in the complex.
He has been charged with murder, attempted murder, criminal confinement, domestic battery and battery by means of a deadly weapon, and pointing a firearm, all felonies.
Officer Elliott had previously served with the Marion County Sheriff's Department as a deputy for over three years. He is survived by his wife, Erin (née Miller); parents, Robert and Paula; brother, Samuel (Mary); and sister, Rachel.
