   Officer Ronnell Johnson was accidentally shot inside the Marion General Hospital on the Marion Health MGH Campus in Marion.

   Area law enforcement officers responded to the hospital involving an on-duty officer who was found suffering from a gunshot wound.

   It was determined Officer Johnson was handling a non-department-owned handgun when it discharged, striking him.

   Hospital medical personnel on scene administered life-saving measures but Officer Johnson did not survive his injuries.

   Officer Johnson, from Van Buren, is survived by his wife, Kaylene; son, Adonis; mother, Lanesta White; brothers, Malik Johnson and Gionni White; and sisters, Malia Johnson and Lanessa White.

Historical Notes

• Officer Johnson is the third of three Indiana line of duty deaths in 2025.
• He is the first line of duty death of the Marion Health Police Department.
• His line of duty death is the 12th that has originated from Grant County.
• Officer Johnson is the first known hospital law enforcement line of duty death in Indiana.
This memorial honors an officer whose eligibility has been preliminarily determined to meet the criteria of a line of duty death.

Funeral Arrangements

Visitation for Officer Johnson will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm EST with services immediately following at 2:00 pm EST. A private burial will take place at a later date. The visitation and services will be held at Brookhaven Wesleyan Church, 2960 East 38th Street in Marion. Arrangements are being handled by Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral and Cremation Service North Chapel, (765) 664-5030.
