   Trooper Richard England was killed in a single-vehicle accident while transporting an Army deserter to Baer Army Air Base in Fort Wayne.

   He attempted to pass a vehicle on U.S. 33 south of Kimmell when it turned in front of him causing his vehicle to strike a tree.

   He was transported to Luckey Hospital in Wolf Lake where he died in the afternoon the following day.

   Trooper England, from Columbia City, was assigned to the Ligonier post. He was survived by his wife.
