Patrolman Lloyd Thompson died from injuries he suffered the previous day in a two-vehicle accident when his motorcycle collided with a truck.

He was pursuing a speeding car northbound on Lincoln Way East from Sample Street. When he approached South Street, an eastbound truck struck his motorcycle in the intersection throwing him 80 feet.

Patrolman Thompson was taken to Epworth Hospital where he died the following day.

It was later determined the car that was being pursued was driven by a father rushing his 11-month-old son to the hospital.

Patrolman Thompson was survived by his wife.
