   Patrolman John Hennigar died from injuries he suffered the previous day when he was intentionally struck by a suspect who was being pursued into Ohio on the National Road.

   He and his partner, who was riding in the sidecar, attempted to stop a subject for transporting liquor and then fled.

   The man drove his vehicle into their police motorcycle just east of New Westville, Ohio, causing injuries to Patrolman Hennigar who died the following day at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond.

   The 26-year-old suspect was arrested the next day and charged with second-degree murder in Preble County, Ohio, where he was subsequently acquitted.

   Patrolman Hennigar was survived by his wife and two daughters.
