   Patrolman James Nelson was killed in a two-vehicle accident when his squad car struck a semitrailer while chasing a speeding vehicle.

   He was pursuing the violator on Michigan Road when he struck the rear of the semitrailer that was making a turn from 7C Road and was killed instantly.

   Patrolman Nelson was survived by his wife, son, daughter, mother, brother and sister.

Memorial Tribute

• In October 2008, Muckshaw Road, from Oakhill Avenue south to the city limits, was named Jim Nelson Drive in his honor.
