   Night Marshal Charles Vickrey was shot and killed while making rounds in the downtown business district on a foggy night.

   He and a merchant policeman came upon two subjects burglarizing the C.E. Brady men's clothing store. As they approached the men in the alley behind the store, Night Marshal Vickrey was shot and killed. The suspects fled into the Eel River and were never apprehended.

   Night Marshal Vickrey was single and survived by his brother and two sisters.
