Incident DetailsCause of Death:
Sheriff William Carver suffered a fatal heart attack while responding to the scene of a fatal fire in Corydon.
He and his wife were tending to his late mother's estate when he was requested to come to the scene of the fire at the Knights of Pythias Lodge building at 213 East Chestnut Street in which a 45-year-old male died in his upstairs residence.
While driving to the scene Sheriff Carver began to experience severe chest pains and stopped at his doctor's office, where he collapsed shortly after arriving.
Medical personnel began cardiopulmonary resuscitation immediately and transported him to Harrison County Hospital where he suffered another massive heart attack and passed away.
Sheriff Carver was in the third year of his first term in office and had previously served as the Corydon town marshal for six years. He was survived by his wife, daughter, two sons, grandson, father, four sisters and five brothers.
