Patrol Detective Justin Mullis was killed in a single-vehicle accident while off duty as he escorted a funeral procession from Martinsville to Mooresville on State Road 67.

After he had blocked the intersection with State Road 39 with his motorcycle, he continued northbound on State Road 67 when vehicles in front of him began slowing.

As he applied the brakes, he lost control of his motorcycle, causing it to slide over 225 feet before coming to a stop on its side.

He was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Mooresville where he was pronounced dead from the head injuries he suffered.

Patrol Detective Mullis had previously served with the Ellettsville Police Department. He was survived by his wife, daughter, two sons, granddaughter, mother, two sisters and five brothers.
